From the 14th to the 21st of April a retreat course was held in Marfond. Guided meditation sessions were interspersed with dharma teachings, classes in Yangchen as well as other physical exercises. Throughout the course Lama Walli continued to give explanations and the reading transmission of the Ngedön Gyamtso (Mahamudra - The Ocean of True Meaning) by the 9th Karmapa Wangchug Dorje.

In the first half of 2012 we plan to build a third retreat house.
From 30/08/ to 29/10/ and from 01/12/ to 31/01/2013 the center will be closed for strict retreat.

Study course

At the end of our practice year we had the chance to receive teachings from Khenpo Chöchok. From the 27th February to 7th March we studied with him two treaties from the third Karmapa, called “Namshe Yeshe” (The Distinction between consciousness and wisdom) and “Nyingpo Tenpa” (Pointing out the Tathagata Heart). It has been the wish of H.H. 17th Karmapa that we become well acquainted with these two important texts.

It was a very inspiring experience for the whole community to work with Khenpo Chöchok in such a concentrated and open atmosphere, which allowed us to clarify our questions with him. At the end we expressed the wish to invite him again for further study courses in the future.

Retreat Year 2011

2011 was a year mainly dedicated to practice. From Losar to Losar (March 2011-February 2012), we had a year of practice in Marfond. On the one hand, we had a group of people in the drupkang who had completed a 3yr retreat in 2010 and who continued with another year. All the other practitioners living in Marfond reduced activities to what was really necessary for the running of the centre, to ensure that they could practice most of the day.

During the 3 months of August-October, the whole centre was in strict retreat under the guidance of Lama Henrik. For the rest of the time we were under Lama Walli’s guidance. Especially during the Winter months (December-January) she specifically took care of her long-term students, so that we could deepen our practice and grow further together as a group.

We concluded the year by the coming together of both groups for the Mahakala days preceding Losar, and a 10-day study course with Khenpo Choechok.

Three–month retreat 2011 with Lama Henrik

With this in mind, retreatants from the drubkhang and from the center (residents and visitors) had the opportunity to practice under the guidance of Lama Henrik from the 15^th of August until the 15^th of November 2011. In a closed retreat we all followed the same rhythm of four sessions per day. Everybody did their individual practice in their own room, and we practiced daily Mahakala and two monthly tsok pujas together.

Once a week, Lama Henrik answered our questions and gave instructions on meditation and on the mind; based on Mahamudra–The Ocean of True Meaning by Karmapa Wangchug Dorje. During the last month of retreat, Lama Henrik also gave us the Tibetan reading transmission (lung) of Mahamudra–The Ocean of True Meaning.

How fortunate we have been to find such favourable and supportive practice conditions.

Visit of Beru Khyentse Rinpoche

On the 5th of September 2011 Beru Khyentse Rinpoche visited us in the late afternoon. In a relaxed atmosphere Rinpoche took his time to answer our questions. His presence was a great blessing.

Beginn of retreat year

On the 7th of March 2011 a one year retreat started in Dedröl Ling . During the two weeks prior to this, we practiced middle-length Mahakala and performed a Sang Puja in order to celebrate the Tibetan New Year (Losar). We, as a community, enjoyed spending this time all together. A group of 10 people are already back in the Drubkang for one year. As we have mentioned before (see About 2011), not only will the Drubkang do retreat, but everybody living here.

We hope, that our practice will be of benefit and we wish you all good health and excellent conditions for dharma practice in the following year.

About 2011

The whole center participated in a three month retreat guided by Lama Henrik from August to November 2010. Afterwards, the group dedicated some weeks for buddhist studies, before starting a new cycle of a one year retreat in March 2011.

Inspired from the good experience from the last retreat as well as the fact that no bigger building projects are planned for this year, all people living in Marfond will start a new cycle of retreat. Among them, 10 people will practice in the Drubkang, four sessions per day, whilst the rest of the practioners in the center will reserve one session in the afternoon for center work, if necessary. If you like to support our retreat financially, we would be very grateful: The Drubkang still needs about 200€ per month to cover expenses such as gaz, electricity etc. If you are able to help us, even with a small amount, please consult our support page.

Karmapa House

We feel very fortunate that the project Karmapa/Lama House has come to fruition and was completed at the end of 2010. After about two years of construction we were happy to present the house to the Karmapa for the first time. During his visit in 2009 he accepted and blessed the house. It has three rooms (one living room, a private room for Karmapa and a third for his parents, Mipham Rinpoche and Ma-Yum), as well as a kitchen, bathroom and a balcony. We feel very fortunate to be able to strenghten our link with the Karmapa and the lineage in this way, and we hope that it will be of great benefit in the future. On this occasion we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the many friends and helpers who supported this project, either through their financial generosity or by their work, without them it would have been impossible.
