On the 13th of August we had the great pleasure and honour to receive Beru Khyentse Rinpoche in Marfond. He is one of the main lineage holders of our Karma Kagyu school and the father of the current (4th) Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche.

He was so kind to bestow the Dorje Pamo empowerment together with its textual transmission (Lung) for the commentary.

In a highly inspired atmosphere we really felt the blessing of the Vajrayana practices and our lineage in particular. Rinpoche dedicated a lot of time to us and when he left it was already deep at night with the moon and stars sparkling.

About 2013

Since the tibetan new year (February 2013) the centre was engaged in various activities. We started by adding two more solar panels on our roof and by renovating various rooms in the centre and the two centre kitchens. We have also finished the renovation of our small temple with new windows being installed, painting the walls, new carpets, etc.
We should also mention that the work on the third retreat house has greatly advanced (for further details and pictures, click here).
But the main focus had been on the house of H.H. 17. Gyalwa Karmapa. He was supposed to stay in his house in Marfond for three weeks. However, he had to cancel his visit at the last minute, due to his father’s state of health. But nevertheless, this was the opportunity for us to completely finish furnishing his rooms and all the countless missing details, which you only notice when such an honoured guest’s visit is announced. As for now we are really looking forward to his visit, maybe next year, as we are so well prepared.

For the second half of the year, until Losar (March 2014), we will be engaged in different retreat periods: From the 1st of September until the 31st of October 2013 Lama Henrik guides a retreat in Marfond. And from December until the end of February Lama Walli will continue the Lodjong retreat with us.
Ten days of Mahakala practice and two Sang Pujas for Losar 2014 will conclude these months of retreat.

Study Course 2013

We were fortunate to welcome Khenpo Chöchok to Marfond for a second time and to receive teachings from him once again.
The course lasted for one week and we began with a broad, yet detailed look into the workings of karma. For the larger part of the rest of the week we began to study Maitreya’s Uttara Tantra Shastra. This treatise is a key text within the Kagyu tradition, according to which it provides  an authoritative explanation of the Buddha’s final and definitive teachings on buddha nature.
The open atmosphere at the course with Khenpo Chöchok’s highly accessible teaching style lead to many in depth exchanges around the topics at hand, with many finer points of inquiry being resolved.

We look forward to receiving the Khenpo once again in the future to continue our study of this important text.

Retreat with Lama Walli 2013

In April, Lama Walli continued with the transmission of the Ngedön Gyamtso (Mahamudra – The Ocean of True Meaning) by the 9th Karmapa Wangchug Dorje, which took place in the frame of a retreat. On the first week, teaching days were alternated with days fully dedicated to practice. Everyday there were guided meditations, Yangchen-Qi-Gong classes, sessions of sitting in silence and an evening session of guru yoga or Chenrezig. The whole retreat was accompanied by instructions on the practice of Shine, given by several Drouplas. During this time, Lama Walli also completed the  reading transmission of the text, which is a meditation manual in the Karma Kagyu tradition.

In order to give us more of an opportunity to benefit from all the teachings and transmission given in the first week, the emphasis for the second week was mostly on personal practice. Question and answer sessions with Lama Walli, teachings and guided meditations were given only in the afternoons. This gave us more space to settle down into the practice, which we very much appreciated.

Lojong Retreat 2012

From the beginning of December ’12 another retreat cycle was started in which Lama Walli began to teach us about the seven points of mind training, following the commentary by the current Shamar Rinpoche.
The whole retreat was focused on the topic of “How to live happily in a community in the light of Bodhicitta?”.We felt that this time has strongly served to strengthen our sense of connectedness with each other and, of course, also to our teachers and the Dharma.
The retreat was concluded with ten days of middle-length Mahakala, and Sang practices around Losar (middle of February).
